A British teenager faces jail time after boasting about his role in taking down U.S. and U.K. government websites. Charlton Floate, 19, admitted to three counts of computer misuse and three counts of possessing prohibited images in a Birmingham Crown Court.
Floate helped organize and launch distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks against the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and U.K.'s Home Office sites in January 2013 then bragged about his actions on internet forums, according to the Birmingham Mail. The teen also hacked the computers of two American men as practice runs and hassled one of them with an explicit video prior to attacking government sites, the Daily Mail reported.
Police linked him to the attacks after he used his IP address to check the effectiveness of the assaults. Floate is scheduled to be sentenced on Oct. 16 after a psychiatric report is completed.
