Clark County Water Reclamation District hit with cyberattack, possibly ransomware

Cybercriminals Friday launched an attack against the Clark County Water Reclamation District in Las Vegas.

Multiple sources told The Las Vegas Review-Journal that the agency's computers were hit with ransomware but district spokesperson Marty Flynn told the publication he was unaware of the claims.

Flynn told KSNV  Monday that district staff shut down numerous computers as a precautionary measure while assessing the situation.

Customer and employee information were not affected by the situation and district plant operations at all seven treatment facilities and customer service centers are functioning without interruptions, Flynn told the station.

The water reclamation district reportedly isn't covered by the county's cyber extortion policy and it is unclear if it has its own policy. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has been asked to investigate the incident. No further details have been released.
