Coloring page website redirects users to malicious installs

A website offering coloring pages for kids could lead to malicious installs and easily prompt children into clicking content other than the desired coloring pages.

The site, “Best Arts Wallpaper Online 2015,” loads with a transparent full-window ad with a small “x” in the top right hand corner, according to a Malwarebytes Labs blog post. If anywhere other than the “x” is clicked, various landing pages load, many of which prompt the user to install something.

In one instance, an iLivid Google Chrome extension loaded, and in another, a Search By Zooms Chrome extension.

In other cases, users were directed to a survey “win” page, a Russian dating site, a PC repair tool and a pornographic website with multiple links.

The researchers recommended keeping an eye on “what you're trading in return for some print out pictures,” as installs, survey and linkdumps often come up in basic searches.
