Company News: Lancope’s new director of security research and more hires

»Lancope, an Atlanta-based provider of flow-based security and network performance monitoring, has appointed industry veteran Tom Cross (left) as director of security research. Cross is credited with discovering a number of critical security vulnerabilities, and has written numerous papers on security topics. Prior to joining Lancope, he was part of the IBM X-Force Advanced Research team, where he served as both a researcher and manager over the course of nine years.

»Wells Fargo & Co. has named Rich Baich (right) to the post of chief information security officer. He will be charged with managing the financial services company's security strategy. Formerly, Baich oversaw the global cyber threat and vulnerability management practice at Deloitte and Touche. Prior, he held security positions at PricewaterhouseCoopers, ChoicePoint and the FBI.

»Donald “Andy” Purdy, formerly an official at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, has been named chief security officer at Huawei USA, a China-based provider of information and communications technology. He will be based in the United States and oversee the company's cyber security assurance strategy and support the global security system adopted by all of the company's business groups, including R&D, supply chain, marketing and sales, project delivery and technical service.

»Backupify, a Cambridge, Mass.-based vendor of online backup services for cloud application data, has secured $9 million in Series C funding to assist in development and adoption of its tools used for backing up data stored in a number of cloud-based applications. The funding was led by Symantec. Existing investors Avalon Ventures, General Catalyst Partners and Lowercase Capital also participated. 

»Cupertino, Calif.-based ForeScout Technologies has appointed Niels Jensen (left) as regional vice president of federal sales. He will be tasked with developing adoption of the company's CounterACT platform, which is said to enable compliance with FISMA and other security guidelines across government agencies. Jensen has more than 15 years of senior sales leadership experience, including stints at BMC Software and IBM.

»AlienVault, a San Mateo, Calif.-based company whose Unified Security Management platform brings together best-in-breed open source tools, has closed a $22.4 million Series C funding round led by Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers and Sigma. Existing investors Trident Capital and Adara Venture Partners also participated. The cash will be used to expand the company's sales, marketing and support functions, as well as further invest in research and development.
