Cybersecurity Collaborative launches Asset Management Task Force

Cybersecurity Collaborative launched this week a task force focused on asset management — a discipline of increasing importance to cybersecurity leaders who wrestle with challenges tied to the growing remote workforce and dispersal of resources to the cloud.

To slow the spread of COVID-19, many organizations implemented policies for employees to work from home. This prompted a widespread shift of IT infrastructure to the cloud and into employees’ homes — a shift that many predict could inspire hybrid workforce models to stick around long after risks tied to the pandemic subside. One problem cited by members of the Collaborative, however, is that these dispersed IT infrastructures hamper visibility into digital assets.

“CISOs who don’t have full visibility into their systems, software, and data can’t secure them,” said Todd Fitzgerald, vice president of cybersecurity strategy at the Cybersecurity Collaborative. “Our members have indicated that this is a big challenge for them. That’s why we’re launching our Asset Management Task Force.”

The task force will engage chief information security officers and other cybersecurity executives at medium to large U.S. organizations to find effective ways to identify and secure relevant digital assets. Ultimately the task force will create a guide (such as a checklist, playbook, or guiding document) that will help members improve their asset management strategies for the distributed workforce. Once completed, the guide will be available to the Collaborative’s full membership.

More broadly, the goal of the Collaborative task forces is to bring together senior IT security executives from the membership to overcome common challenges. In addition to the Asset Management Task Force, the Collaborative announced this week the formation of the Third-Party Risk Task Force to explore ways organizations can minimize risks from their supply chain. Names of participating task force members is kept confidential.

Cybersecurity Collaborative is a membership community for cybersecurity, privacy, and risk leaders to share best practices that maximize their defense readiness. To find out more, visit www.cyberleadersunite.com.
