Dating website Muslim Match hacked, user info exposed

Muslim Match, a dating website for Muslims, was hacked and user credentials and profiles of 150,000 subscribers posted online, according to Vice Motherboard.

The data includes such personal profile information as whether the member is a convert, employment details and marital status.

Motherboard was able to discern usernames, logged IP addresses and MD5 passwords by linking private messages with specific accounts. Users were based all around the globe.

Because the leaked database included six documents in SQL format, the report posited that the hacker used SQL injection to gain access.

"We have been made aware of an alleged security breach and are reviewing our systems as we work to remedy the situation and tighten our security," is posted on the Muslim Match home page, currently offline in observance of Ramadan.

Not using HTTPs nor encryption on login screens are the primary reasons to be wary of sites such as this, the report said.
