Educational network Janet hit with DDoS attacks

A wave of DDoS attacks were launched against the  education network Janet yesterday morning.

Cyber-attacks began on Friday 15 April, but further attacks were observed at 10am Monday 18 April. Janet's network provides over 18 million users in the UK who are in research and education.

A status update from Janet's network and service issues page on Friday said, “Issues accessing websites outside the UK may be seen. Blocks are being implemented”.

Service improved by Friday afternoon, however Bournemouth University tweeted that they experienced an attack on their network Monday morning.

“We have noticed an improvement to the BU network, services are running at normal levels again see #TT172929 for ongoing updates,” BU's latest tweet read.
