EU conducts massive cyberattack simulation on critical networks

The European Union on Thursday conducted one of the largest cybersecurity tests on the networks of participating organizations in various industries.

Organized by the European Union Agency for Network and Information Security (ENISA), the test included companies in the telecom, energy, finance and internet service provider sectors, according to The Hill.

While the EU conducts such tests every two years, ENISA said this was the “largest and most complex,” featuring more than 2,000 attacks, including denial-of-service attacks. A report will soon be released that sheds light on how a new set of EU cybersecurity threat-sharing procedures fared during the simulation.

“The outcome of today's exercise will tell us where we stand and identify the next steps to take in order to keep improving,” said Udo Helmbrecht, executive director at ENISA.
