The U.S. Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA), on behalf of the federal government, is looking for assistance to deal with the consequences of the cyber attack on the Office of Personnel Management, according to a 39-page contract issued by NAVSEA soliciting a vendor to provide “data breach response services” for three years.
The first task is to develop a website for alerting the 21.5 million people whose personal information – including sensitive background check data and 1.1 million fingerprints – was exposed as a result of the OPM hack.
The contract also calls for security inspections at facilities where the U.S. government collects and stores protected information, according to Nextgov. One proviso requires the vendor to allow authorities access to its database systems.
Notifications are expected to reach victims within the next three months.
