Feds may restrict visas for Chinese security conference attendees

The government may impose visa restrictions on Chinese nationals who are scheduled to attend the upcoming Black Hat and DefCon security conferences in Las Vegas.

The possible move, which came to light just days after the U.S. charged five Chinese nationals with committing economic espionage, is set to be a part of Washington's effort to restrict China's cyber espionage efforts, according to Reuters.

A senior administration official, whose identity remains anonymous since they were not authorized to speak publicly, this is just one of the options the government is considering. According to the report, conference organizers were not aware of these efforts, but acknowledged that such a move would not have a positive effect on the security community.

Several Chinese nationals are already scheduled to speak at sessions at this year's Black Hat event.
