Former Ashley Madison exec accuses journalist of libeling

Cyber-crime journalist Brian Krebs is reported by the Register to have received a threatening letter from the lawyer of Raja Bhatia, the ex-CTO of Ashley Madison.

The letter to Krebs claims that one of his blog posts “contains false and defamatory statements about Mr Bhatia. We ask Krebs on Security to immediately retract and correct them.”

Krebs has published the letter online from the Canadian legal firm in case other publications also received threats from Ashley Madison or its current and former employees. “Libel lawsuits in the United States are usually quite difficult and expensive for the plaintiff to win,” Krebs said.

Libel laws are more complex for defendants in Canada where Bhatia's lawyer and Ashley Madison's parent company, Avid Life Media, is headquartered. It is reported that the burden here is for the accused to prove the disputed claims are true.
