The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is seeking comments on a new method from AgeCheq for verifying parental consent when children, ages 13 or under, try to access websites that collect personal information.
The agency recently revised its Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) rule to allow companies who create new adult verification methods to submit them for FTC approval, according to a release. AgeCheq submitted its verification method under the new ruling.
The updated ruling also allows for companies who submit their product for approval to maintain some secrecy about their method to protect its trade secrets. AgeCheq says on its website that parents can verify their identity and then monitor their child's activity through a dashboard.
A public comment period is open until the end of September.
