Having recently taken on the studio boss role at Relativity Studios, House of Cards star Kevin Spacey fears a hack similar to that of Sony Pictures will occur again.
“Obviously the Sony hack was a wake-up call for anyone in my industry, and I would think for anyone in any industry,” Spacey stated at a cyber-security debate at the Davos summit.
The new responsibility has made him more aware of the dangers of content being released against the will of its creator. The actor's primary concern is protection of content and intellectual property from cyber-attacks. “For me now, the issue of content protection, and protection of intellectual property is even more important,” Spacey said.
The International Business Times stated that during the Sony hack, several emails that included company correspondence with Spacey were leaked online. Spacey said he had to change his email address following the massive hack.
He stated,“It caused a tremendous amount of damage, I was personally affected by it and obviously it became the point of a great amount of controversy and issues of how does a company go about protecting itself.”
“From the artist's point of view, a person's IP is their identity, it is what they hold dear, it is the way we know their work. We hope that as things go forward, artists will be able to protect that identity and they'll be able to get the kind of credit they deserve,” Spacey said.
