Attackers gained access to Clarksville Town Court classified records on June 23, potentially compromising information such as names, addresses, dates of birth, and Social Security numbers, James Guilfoyle, Clarksville Town Court judge, said in a statement emailed to SCMagazine.com on Thursday.
An investigation is currently ongoing with the FBI and the Indiana Supreme Court, the statement said, noting that all affected individuals will be provided with details on how to protect themselves from identity theft.
According to an AP report, the information belonged to people involved in cases from 2005 and prior.
Citing a town councilman, the News and Tribune reported that files on the server were “hacked and encrypted,” and that the incident could expose information on about 200 town employees. The councilman reportedly expressed concerns about the security of the town's network, and suggested a security audit be conducted.
