M. Holdings Security issues warning on possible data breach

M. Holdings Securities is notifying some of its clients of a potential data breach due to a laptop being stolen from an employee's car.

Information on the as yet unrecovered laptop contains may contain client's name, address, Social Security Number, driver's license or ID number and financial account information of an unnamed number of clients, said Kenneth D. Stephens, president of M. Holdings Securities, in a letter submitted to the State of California Department of Justice,  Office of the Attorney General.

The computer was password protected and M. Holdings is not aware at this time of any fraud or misuse that has taken place due to the computer being stolen.

The company is offering 12 months of identity protection, has hired a forensic investigator and employees are also undergoing security training and law enforcement has been brought in.

M. Holdings has not replied to a message requesting additional information.
