New system aims to automate threat intelligence in health care industry

A new system aimed not only at promoting threat intelligence in the health care industry, but also automating it, was announced Wednesday.

The Health Information Trust Alliance (HITRUST) disclosed the creation of the Cyber Threat XChange (CTX) which it hopes will “significantly accelerate” detection and response times to threat indicators in the health care industry, according to a recent release.

Organizations of all sizes will be able to tap into information that's readily available in electronic format on the most recent cyber threats and actionable indicators. Other organizations participating in the automated service include Humana, UnitedHealth Group, Health Care Services Corp., and Highmark Health among others.

The health care industry has long been a significant target of cyber attacks, with a recent study indicating that 38 percent of health care organizations experienced more than five breaches in a two-year period.
