A review is ongoing into the National Institute of Standards and Technology's (NIST) cryptographic standards and guidelines program.
NIST's primary advisory committee, the Visiting Committee on Advanced Technology (VCAT), has organized a panel of notable cryptographers, business leaders and scholars to help support the review, according to a Wednesday release.
The panel, named the Committee of Visitors, includes Vint Cerf of Google, Edward Felten of Princeton University, and Steve Lipner of the Microsoft Corporation among others. The panel may seek input from other experts and plans on publishing the findings here.
In November, NIST announced that it would launch a formal review of its standards development process in response to publicized Edward Snowden leaks that revealed the National Security Agency's efforts to undermine widely used encryption methods.
