A man and a woman accused of participating in a phishing scam, aimed at generating funds to bring foreign criminals into the U.K., have been sentenced to 14 years in prison.
Constanta Agrigoroaie, 23, and Radu Savoae, 28, who were sentenced last Thursday, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit fraud as well as six counts of possessing fraudulent ID cards and the equipment to make fake ID and bank cards, a release from London police said.
In the scheme, more than 150 victims received emails, allegedly from Apple, asking them to update their account details due to a compromise. Included links led to a fake website. When the victims complied, their information was used to steal large sums of money, which were, in turn, used to buy transport for criminals into the U.K.
