Rebekah Brooks back at News Corp.?

In a story that could have been ripped from the pages from  the now defunct News of the World, that newspaper's former editor Rebekah Brooks is reportedly in talks to return to News Corp., four years after resigning her post over a phone hacking scandal, and one year after being cleared of those charges.

The report came from the Financial Times, which cited sources close to the matter, has Brooks returning as chief executive of News Corp.'s U.K. division possibly as early as September.

News Corp. was asked to confirm or deny the story, but has not replied.

Brooks became embroiled in a phone hacking scandal when reports emerged that her reporters had accessed the phones of some of the people that they were covering. Brooks was arrested in 2011 in connection with the hacking and police bribery, and then cleared of those charges on June 24, 2014. Fellow News Corp.

UPDATE:  Brooks officially returned to News Corp. on Sept. 2 as CEO of the UK division.
