Name: Timothy Eades
Why nominated: Tim Eades’ peers say he has tirelessly led, mentored, grown and supported the security community via different avenues to blaze the trail of innovation.
Profile: Tim Eades takes his lead from punk rock, which he says has inspired countless other bands to form their own, unique type of music. He compares this striving for originality to entrepreneurship, where businesses work hard to offer something unique to the public.
Eades fights hard to protect what’s important: personal information, financial and health records, intellectual property and nation-state information capital.
Today, as CEO of vArmour, he leads the company in protecting the world’s largest banks, service providers, government agencies, healthcare companies and retailers.
Julian Tran, advisor and former vice president, people operations at vArmour, says very few people can compete with Eades when it comes to his work ethic and dedication to his colleagues when they need his help. Regardless of what time zone he’s in, Eades will always pick up the phone and help a colleague or friend when they really need it.
“His ability to rapidly correlate data and information makes him an incredible problem solver, which is why colleagues seek him out for advice and counsel,” Tran says. “Those who know him affectionately refer to him as ‘One Speed Eades” because he is often 10 steps ahead of most people in his thinking and has to slow down to effectively bring people along to his vision so they can help build a bridge from the current problem to an innovative solution.”
Eades also takes an active role outside the security industry, volunteering as a board member for Cake4Kids. Eades came from humble beginnings—he grew up in a small village in the U.K.
What colleagues say: “Tim’s story is filled with obstacles that he worked to overcome. It’s where his fighting spirit comes from. What I most admire about him is that he owns his story and shares it to encourage people around him to believe that anything is possible. We partnered together to help build a company that at its very core has a heartbeat. It has a palpable mission to protect what’s important: our world, communities, our families from the potential devastating effect of the global cyber threat.”
