Researchers reveal security issues in Android apps

The University of New Haven's Cyber Forensics Research and Education Group has revealed security issues impacting popular Android apps, including those for Instagram and OKCupid users.

On Monday, the research group posted its first YouTube video in a week-long series that will shed light on concerning  privacy issues affecting Android and iOS apps.

Of note, researchers found that images sent and received by Instagram users running version 6.3.1 of the Android app are vulnerable to being intercepted by attackers, since they are transmitted unencrypted over the network. Similarly, messages sent on OKCupid's Android app (version 3.4.6) were also exposed due to the same issue, as well as photos and messages sent using a popular video chat app called ooVoo. That issue in ooVoo impacts version 2.2.1 of the app.
