Samsung released a software update that includes a critical security patch for the Galaxy S6 Edge. The South Korean company has not provided details of the vulnerability, which appears to be exclusive to the S6 Edge.
Early reports speculated that the critical vulnerability may have been related to the recent QuadRooter vulnerabilities, although Check Point, the security firm that discovered the QuadRooter flaws, informed SCMagazine.com that the vulnerabilities are unrelated to Galaxy S6 Edge devices.
The Quadrooter flaws in Qualcomm chipset software drivers could affect 900 million Android devices requires the installation of malicious code through malware or a malicious app. “Galaxy S6 Edge is built on the Exynos 7420 Octa chipset,” Check Point mobile security evangelist Jeff Zacuto wrote in an email to SCMagazine.com. “It would not be affected by QuadRooter.”
