Breach, Data Security

Target names CIO, will switch to chip and PIN cards

Target has tapped government security leader Bob DeRodes as its new executive vice president and chief information officer to lead the company's overhaul of its information technology infrastructure, which includes transitioning all of the retailer's credit cards to MasterCard's chip and PIN technology in 2015.

Target began reorganizing its security and compliance division in March to restore consumer confidence and tighten security in the aftermath of the company's high-profile data breach. At the time, Target accepted the resignation of CIO Beth Jacob and announced plans to invest $100 million to move to chip-and-PIN-enabled REDcards along with supporting software and next-generation payment devices in stores.

DeRodes has logged more than 40 years in information technology, data security, and business operations, including positions at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and at CitiBank, Home Depot and Delta Air Lines.
