Uber, Airbnb, Dropbox, and others form coalition to evaluate vendor cyber risks

A coalition of tech companies united to form the Vendor Security Alliance (VSA) in an effort to streamline the vetting process that businesses use for evaluating vendors' cybersecurity risks.

The coalition, which includes Uber, Airbnb, Atlassian, Docker, Dropbox, GoDaddy, Palantir, Square, and Twitter, on Oct. 1 will release a free security and compliance questionnaire to benchmark vendor risks, according to a Sept. 15 press release.

VSA's questionnaire  is expected to save businesses time and money that otherwise would have been spent evaluating each vendor on an individual basis and to improve security across the board for consumers by promoting and recognizing firms that use sound cybersecurity practices, the release said.

“Ensuring the vendors you work with have secure Internet practices is just as important as maintaining such practices at your own company,” Uber Head of Compliance Ken Baylor said in the release. “The VSA can be a gamechanger for businesses around the globe by solving their vendor compliance and security issues.”
