Witnesses against Silk Road creator to be kept under wraps until days before trial

The mastermind behind Silk Road, Ross Ulbricht, will remain in the dark until three days before his trial begins about which witnesses will testify against him.

The prosecution successfully argued to New York District Court Judge Katherine Forrest last week that Ulbricht could arrange for the witnesses to be hurt or killed if named, according to Wired.

The argument was based on allegations that Ulbricht had previously paid for the arranged murders of six people, according to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

Although Ulbricht's attorneys countered their client has been jailed without email or real access to the outside world, Forrest wrote that defendants in similar situations, “creatively managed around such limitations.”

Ulbricht has not been charged with the alleged murder attempts, although he was separately charged in Maryland for allegedly arranging for a supposed Silk Road employee's murder.
