DeMISTIfying Security: How to Boost Your Cyber Budget

By Ed Moyle and Raef Meeuwisse

Budgets are a sore subject no matter what profession you’re in, but when it comes to information security, it’s an even touchier subject given the many constraints security departments find themselves in.

In the previous DeMISTIfying Security segment, infosec veterans Ed Moyle and Raef Meeuwisse discussed the state of cybersecurity as it relates to executive-level support within the business. Although it may not always be the case, a decent sign of support comes in the form of a nice budget, but sadly that luxury isn’t the norm. There are, however, ways you can boost your cybersecurity budget, and during this week’s segment the guys provide those tips, such as communicating how prevention is known to be substantially cheaper than remediation.

“If you want to get prevention done, that means you’re going to have to have enough investment to get security done proactively,” he said. “Prevention can be hundreds of times cheaper than going to try and fix something [later].”

In the full episode below, Raef and Ed dive into additional insights that will help you boost your cybersecurity budget.
