Domain registrar Joker.com has fallen victim to a massive distributed denial of service (DDoS) attack, affecting not only the site itself but also the domains on the company's name servers.
"We are very sorry for this issue, but we are working hard for a permanent solution," read a statement on the company's website.
More than 55,000 domains are registered with Germany-based Joker, according to Netcraft. Any of the domains that use the company's DNS servers likely are affected by the attacks.
Hackers often target name servers, or DNS servers, which translate domain names into IP addresses, because these programs often control many websites.
