Katherine Brin will serve as the new FTC CPO

The Federal Trade Commission Chairman Edith Ramirez announced Wednesday that Katherine Race Brin will become the agency's Chief Privacy Officer (CPO).

Brin, who has been serving as acting CPO since the departures of Peter Miller earlier this year, will be responsible for coordinating efforts to review and implement policies and procedures that protect sensitive information within the agency. She will also chair both the Privacy Steering Committee and the Breach Notification Response Team.

Prior to stepping in for Miller, Brin served as the Senior Advisor of the FTC's Bureau of Consumer Protection and before that, was a staff attorney at the agency. In 2011 Brin received a Bureau Director's Award after having assumed a central role in some of the commission's biggest data security and privacy cases.
