Anonymity seekers will only compromise their Apple mobile devices if they download the 99-cent Tor Browser app that is still available in the App Store.
The fact that the malicious app is still available has been puzzling many Tor and Apple mobile users lately, now that a number of complaints filed with Apple as far back as three months ago have seemingly fallen on deaf ears.
“Tor Browser in the Apple App Store is fake,” Tor user phobos wrote in a ticket filed in early January on the Tor Project website. “It's full of adware and spyware. Two users have called to complain. We should have it removed.”
In the comments, phobos said a complaint was filed with Apple on Dec. 26, 2013, and later said that Apple had offered the author a chance to defend the app.
