Multi-Color employee data compromised

Multi-Color, a label solutions firm, reported that a break-in at a third party affiliate resulted in the compromise of Multi-Color employee personally identifiable information.

How many victims? Unknown

What type of information? Human Resource records and information on all of the firm's U.S. employees as of April 13, 2016, including names, social security numbers, potentially addresses and certain dependent information. The information of certain former employees, employees of a predecessor company and applicants was also affected.

What happened? On May 16, an unnamed East Coast law firm representing Multi-Color informed the company that someone had broken into the law firm's office on either May 14 or May 15 and stole several items including a hard drive containing Multi-Color's data and the password to access hard drive.

What was the response? Multi-Color is investigating the incident along with the law firm, Baltimore police, private investigators, and other authorities. An outside firm has also been brought in to monitor possible internet activity of the data. Multi-Color said there is a reasonable possibility that it may be able to recover the hard drive to determine if any of its information was improperly accessed.

Quote: “We apologize for any concern or inconvenience that this theft may cause you,” Multi-Color Vice President of Global Human Resources Lesha Spahr said in the June 15, Notice of Security Incident.
