1.9 Million Michigan State Employees Impacted in Data Breach

By Marcos Colon

Any individuals whose payroll was processed by a third-party vendor, who implemented the software update in October 2016, have had their personal data exposed, according to a release by the DTMB.

“The vendor supporting the unemployment benefit computer system introduced a vulnerability that allowed authorized users of the Michigan Data Automated System to access Social Security numbers and names they were not authorized to view,” according to the release. “The problem was identified on Jan. 30, and a fix to block further unauthorized access was implemented the same day.”
