8tracks Database Breach Impacts 18M Accounts

By Marcos Colon

Internet radio and playlist service 8tracks has suffered a database breach that has resulted in the compromised information of up to 18 million users.

The music streaming site shared via a blog post that only users who signed up for the service using their email address are affected by the breach, while those who signed up via Google or Facebook authentication are “not affected by this leak.”

Although all passwords are hashed and salted, 8tracks recommends that all users change their passwords on the site, in addition to any other sites where the same password is used.

“We found what we believe to be the method of the attack and taken precautions to ensure our databases are secure,” the post reads. “8tracks does not store sensitive customer data such as credit card numbers, phone numbers, or street addresses.”
