A vulnerability found in the code that runs on the Broadcom Wi-Fi chips in iOS devices has been fixed by Apple.
Google Project Zero researcher Gal Beniamini discovered the flaw in the firmware of Broadcom Wi-Fi chips, according to a report by CSO Online. Attackers that exploit the flaw can remotely executive malicious code on the chips.
Released on Monday, the iOS 10.3.1 update solely addresses the critical flaw found in the company’s iPhones, iPads and iPod products. The release comes on the heels of iOS 10.3, which was released one week prior and addressed slew of vulnerabilities.
Google Project Zero alerted Broadcom of the vulnerability in December, but the company asked for an extension on the standard 90-day disclosure deadline that Google has in place. This allowed Broadcom to address the flaw during the grace period, which then gave Apple the ability to test it and push it to device users.
