CISA certification reaches milestone

The Information Systems Audit and Control Association has certified its 35,000th student.

Iñaki Murcia García of Madrid, an IT security audit and consulting services manager for DINSA Solutions, earned the qualification by passing the Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) exam. The CISA is a well known standard in the IS audit, control and security field. He completed five years of information systems auditing, complying with information systems auditing standards.

"Having a CISA certification enhances my image and prestige within my organization and in the market place," said Murcia.  " Facing the CISA examination and obtaining the certification was a personal satisfaction and a way to evaluate my updated knowledge."

The Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA) said that IT professionals holding the CISA certification earned the some of the largest gains in premium bonus pay among 56 certifications between 2002 and 2003.

"Many IT and business line managers interviewed in recent research support the notion that certification is a more meaningful measure of comparing IT workers than untested or self-reported skills competence," said David Foote, president and chief research officer for Foote Partners, an IT workforce research firm and management consultancy.

Murcia said he prepared for the CISA examination through roundtables with other students.

In 2003, 11,900 people took the test. The next exam will be held 12 June 2004 at more than 200 test sites around the world.
