Cyber Criminals Prefer to Launch Attacks on Thursday, Report Finds

By Marcos Colon

Security and risk departments should be on high alert each day of the week, but they may want to be more attentive on Thursdays.

A recent report by security firm Proofpoint found that when examining the weekly volume of attacks, malicious attachment message volume spikes more than 38% on Thursdays.

“These weekday targeting trends appear to be global: Thursday is the top message volume day for attachments in all the countries we examined,” the report reads.

When it comes to malicious URL message volume, cyber miscreants prefer to send the messages on Tuesday and Thursday, although the message volume is more distributed across the weekdays.

Weekends continue to be low-volume days for email threats, although the report states that malicious URL message volume does not drop off as significantly as those carrying malicious attachments.
