It’s official: Computer Associates now CA

The company formerly known as Computer Associates announced on Wednesday that it had officially changed its name to CA.

"The name change aligns the company's corporate name with its refined positioning and brand promise to unify and simplify the management of enterprise-wide IT," the company said this week in a statement.

The Long Island, N.Y.-company said its stock market ticker symbol will remain the same.

CA announced the name change along with a global marketing campaign and new slogan, "Believe again."

"Our new voice in the marketplace reflects the transformation underway at CA and the unique opportunity we have in the industry," said John Swainson, president and chief executive officer. "The brand focuses on CA's strengths in helping its customers unify and simplify the management of enterprise-wide IT, and we can do this better than anyone else. Our technology vision takes an integrated suite-based focus, and we're delivering products towards this vision today."

The name change is the latest in a line of corporate tweaks for the software company. Last week it announced that Mark Barrenechea has been named company executive vice president and chief technology officer.

Yogesh Gupta, CA's CTO since August 2000, was named senior vice president of business development.

Barrenechea will report to Swainson while Gupta will serve under Michael Christenson, executive vice president of strategy and business development.

CA has made 10 corporate acquisitions in the past 18 months – a value of $1.6 billion - in the fields of enterprise systems management and security management, including anti-spam supplier Qurb and firewall maker Tiny Software.
