Lawmakers Introduce State Cyber Resiliency Act to Aid State and Local Governments

By Marcos Colon

The State Cyber Resiliency Act sets up a cybersecurity grant program that provides resources to state and local governments to implement cybersecurity resiliency plans to detect, protect, respond, and recover from cyber intrusions, according to the GCN.com.

The bill’s sponsors say that state and local governments only allocate less than two percent of their IT budgets toward cybersecurity efforts, citing studies that shed light on the data breaches they’ve experienced, in addition to the voter records that were compromised in Arizona and Illinois in 2016.

The bill’s sponsors include Reps. Derek Kilmer (D-Wash.) and Barbara Comstock (R-Va.), as well as Sens. Mark Warner (D-Va.) and Cory Gardner (R-Colo.).
