Liquid Machines acquires Omniva Policy Systems

Liquid Machines, a supplier of enterprise rights management software, has acquired Omniva Policy Systems, a California-based provider of secure e-mail technology.

Omniva's technology enforces corporate policies at the email gateway and allows companies to securely exchange confidential data with others regardless of what email system they use and without requiring additional software or configuration. Liquid Machines makes software that protects content from its creation through editing and distribution.

Michael Ruffolo, president and CEO of Liquid Machines, will lead the combined companies. Liquid Machines will retain its headquarters in Lexington, Mass.

The acquisition is the latest deal in a continuing consolidation trend in the information security market. Last week, Symantec said it will acquire @stake and PatchLink acquired Moonlight Systems.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
