NYPD cops breached

Anthony Bonelli, 46, of Valley Stream, L.I., was arrested last Friday after he allegedly broke into a Staten Island warehouse and stole backup tapes containing personal information of current and retired NYPD cops.

How many victims? 80,000.

What type of personal information? Social Security numbers, addresses and medical and bank account information.

Details: Bonelli was a civilian employee of the NYPD pension fund.

Those hired after May 2007 are unaffected, and the identities of undercover officers was not part of the data stolen, according to Anthony Garvey, the fund's executive director.

What was the response? The pension fund said it "does not believe member information has been compromised" and said the tapes have been recovered. Free credit protection has been offered to the 36,000 active and 43,000 retired cops affected in the breach.
