Phishing attacks on the rise

Phishing attacks shot up 43 percent in March for an average of 13 new scams each day, according to a report released Monday by the Anti-Phishing Working Group.

Phishing attacks use fake emails and web sites to trick users into divulging their personal data such as credit card numbers or passwords.

The Anti-Phishing Working Group received reports of 402 unique phishing attacks in March, up from 282 in February. That represents a monthly growth rate of 50 percent per month since December, according to APWG.

As in previous months, the company most targeted in March was eBay while the most targeted industry sector was financial services.
