Second teenager arrested in connection with TalkTalk cyber-attack

Police have made a second arrest in relation to the cyber-attack carried out on telecoms provider TalkTalk last week.

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Cyber Crime Unit (MPCCU) carried out a search warrant at an address in Feltham in southwest London.

While at the address, a 16-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of breaching the Computer Misuse Act.

A search of the address in Feltham has been completed, and the teenager has now been bailed - we await confirmation of the bail date.

The MPCCU, supported by officers from the National Crime Agency, both continue their enquiries into the cyber-attack.

On Monday 26 October, a 15-year-old boy from Northern Ireland was also arrested on suspicion of breaching the Computer Misuse Act.

Working with detectives from the MPCCU, the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) took the teenager into custody at a County Antrim police station. He has since been bailed to a date in November.

News of the cyber-attack emerged last Wednesday, with the telecoms company publicly warning customers that fraudsters could use their details for things like identity fraud and to be on the look out for any fraudulent activities on their bank statements.

Chief executive Dido Harding later said the scale of the attack was "smaller" than originally thought, and that any credit card details accessed would have been incomplete.

MPs are to launch an inquiry into the cyber-attack, with culture minister Ed Vaizey saying the government is not against compulsory encryption for firms holding customer data.
