The State of Artificial Intelligence in 2019

By Marcos Colon

Artificial intelligence (AI) is found in homes across the globe, and it’s also being leveraged by troves of organizations across the country. But the question on everyone’s mind is, should the modern-day security practitioner make this technology a part of their security strategy?

There is certainly no shortage of companies popping up offering AI capabilities, and it certainly doesn’t fall short of the security industry, according to Douglas Barbin, principal at Schellman & Company, an independent provider of IT audit and certification services.

“There are hundreds of companies that have gotten venture funding to go into that market and to focus their products and services around AI,” Barbin told InfoSec Insider during a recent interview shot at the CSA Congress event in Orlando, Florida. “AI is probably what cloud was 10 years ago. It’s a new technology that allows people to work smarter and better, but there are risks involved.” Like it or not, AI is here so you better prepare for the challenges that come with it, he adds.

In the full video interview below, Barbin shares why AI is here to stay and what security practitioners should be doing to ensure they reap the benefits of this technology that’s maturing at a rapid pace.
