University of Florida records exposed online

The sensitive information of 11,300 current and former University of Florida students was accidentally publicly published online.

What type of personal information? Names, Social Security numbers, addresses.

What happened? The information, first posted between 2003 and 2005, was left online because of an error. The data, belonging to members participating in the Office for Academic Support and Institutional Service, was discovered following a routine audit.

What was the response? Students who believe their information may have been exposed are being asked to call a privacy hot line at (866) 876-4472 or visit https://privacy.ufl.edu.

Details: The data was posted online so students could access it from remote locations, but it was not properly secured.
