GlobalLeaks hacking group reveals some UAE ambassador emails

A hacking group called GlobalLeaks has purportedly stolen emails from the United Arab Emirates U.S. ambassador that indicate that nation is manipulating American Persian Gulf policy.

The Daily Beast reported GlobalLeaks offered up a 55-page sampling of the data saying it will soon begin releasing the information publicly. The reason behind the hack is to show how the UAE through its ambassador Yousef Al Otaiba has spent millions of dollars to damage the U.S.'s reputation in the region and push it toward policies that benefit the UAE.

The email dump comes from a Washington, D.C. whistleblower, GlobalLeaks claims, but the Daily Beast said the emails were obviously print outs from Otaiba's Hotmail account. The hacking group's emails, which is not affiliated with WikiLeaks, came from a from a Russian email provider.

The Daily Beast said some of the emails it saw were between Otaiba and former Defense Secretary Robert Gates.

The group said it would reveal its entire cache of emails on June 3, although this has not taken place.
