Cloud Security, Zero trust

Ivanti and Lookout on Wednesday joined forces to help organizations accelerate cloud adoption and mature their zero-trust security posture in what they call the "Everywhere Workplace" — the modern world of work where people need to access digital applications and services from anywhere.

The two companies formed a partnership to integrate Ivanti’s Neurons for zero-trust access and Lookout’s cloud access security broker (CASB) and secure web gateway (SWG) to help customers improve threat prevention and data security both on-premises and in the cloud while following zero-trust access security principles.

Corporate data now sprawls across countless locations both on premises and in the cloud, said David Richardson, vice president of product at Lookout. Richardson said IT and security teams don’t have visibility into how their users are accessing enterprise resources and how data gets handled, which makes protecting data really hard — as well as detecting and preventing threats.

“The new joint security service edge (SSE) solution from Ivanti and Lookout will help organizations better protect their data, regardless of access or hosting method,” Richardson said. “It aims to prevent data leakage with adaptive and contextual data protection controls; enforce compliance policies with granular controls that consider device owner, resource location, current device posture and data sensitivity; and detect threats from inside and outside the network.”

John Grady, a senior analyst at the Enterprise Strategy Group, said that zero trust and SASE/SSE are increasingly related. Grady said ESG research has found that 45% of organizations say their initial SASE use case will be to support a zero-trust initiative. Further, despite a lot of the market focus around consolidation with regards to SASE/SSE, most — 81% — expect to use multiple tools to support SASE.

“Ivanti has a huge presence securing remote access, and Lookout — through the CipherCloud acquisition — across many of the other parts of SSE,” said Grady. “So this is about meeting customers where they are and helping them adopt zero-trust and SASE/SSE architectures without ripping and replacing the tools they may already have in place.”

Pete Finalle, a senior research analyst for IDC’s Security team, added that this strategic partnership lets Ivanti and Lookout better align with the COVID-accelerated trend of enabling a consistent security posture that’s location-agnostic: in the main office, branch office or remote.

“This partnership gives rise to the potential for Ivanti's machine-learning and deep intelligence driven automation capabilities to be integrated consistently across a combined platform that protects access to both private, on premise resources and public, cloud/web resources,” Finalle said.
