Firefox announces Enhanced Tracking protection

Mozilla's Firefox announced it will not enable Enhanced Tracking Protection (ETP) by default while at the same time updating Facebook Container, Firefox Monitor and Lockwise.

The updated features mean Firefox will now block known third-party trackers by default making it more difficult for thousands of companies to track moves, according to a June 4 blog post.

“For new users who install and download Firefox for the first time, Enhanced Tracking Protection will automatically be set on by default as part of the ‘Standard’ setting in the browser and will block known “third-party tracking cookies” according to the Disconnect list,” researchers said in the post.

Current users can also activate the feature on Firefox by clicking on the menu icon marked by three horizontal lines at the top right of the browser, go to Content Blocking, go to privacy preferences, and click on the custom option on the right side, mark the Cookies checkbox and make sure that "All Third-party trackers" is selected.

In addition, Firefox will also prevent third party trackers from tracking users on sites that have embedded Facebook abilities.

Mozilla also released new product features to assist in password management and to monitor email addresses in data breaches.
