Reuben Paul hacks Bluetooth devices at World Forum

Future cybersecurity pro Reuben Paul, 11, deftly hacked the Bluetooth devices of attendees at the World Forum in the Netherlands on Tuesday using a stuffed bear to connect to the cloud via Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.

Paul then used a Raspberry Pi to scan for Bluetooth devices before downloading sensitive information, according to a welivesecurity blog post. Using Python, he accessed the bear through “one of the stolen numbers and turn on one of its lights and record a message from the audience,” the blog noted.

The Austin, Texas, native, who began keynoting at security conferences as a nine year old, said: “From terminators to teddy bears, anything or any toy can be weaponized,” according to the post.
