Symantec agrees to acquire @stake

Symantec has inked a deal to acquire security consulting firm @stake.

"By joining forces with the leader in application security consulting, we expand the capacity and capabilities of our consulting organization, which allows us to better secure the applications that our customers develop and deploy," Gail Hamilton, executive vice president of Symantec global services and support, said in a statement.

James Mobley, @stake president and CEO, said Symantec's acquisition will allow @stake to expand its offerings to a broader customer base.

The deal is expected to close next month but Symantec did not disclose financial terms.

Cambridge, Mass.-based @stake made a big splash when it launched four years ago because a hacker group, L0pht Heavy Industries, headed its research and development efforts.
