Symantec to acquire Sygate

Symantec continued its acquisitive pattern by inking a deal to acquire Sygate Technologies, a supplier of endpoint security products.

The deal comes about a month after Symantec completed its acquisition of storage giant Veritas Software.

In a statement, Symantec said Sygate's technology would complement its "presence on the endpoint to create a holistic solution to address the security, compliance and remediation requirements of today's large enterprises."

Sygate's products ensure that systems connecting to the network comply with a company's security policies and have updated security software and patches.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Symantec expects the acquisition to close soon, after it receives customary regulatory approvals.

Once it closes, customers of Symantec Antivirus and Client Security will be able to obtain Sygate's Network Access Control Agent. Symantec said it plans to integrate it remediation capabilities such as LiveUpdate and its data availability products into a "more robust endpoint compliance solution."
