The Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) is rallying tech firms to unite to defend internet users before Donald Trump's inauguration.
The EFF is calling on organization to use HTTPS and end-to-end encryption for all user digital interactions by default, delete logs so that they won't be compelled to surrender information that they don't have, reveal any government requests to monitor users or censor speech, and to fight for user rights in courts.
“President Donald Trump and many of his advisors have promised to ratchet up surveillance and censorship, net neutrality, privacy, and encryption," the organization said in a letter to the firms.
The organization is also encouraging firms to secure their systems by offering best practices for deleting unnecessary user data, a wishlist for how specific tech companies can take steps to protect users, suggestions for tech leaders meeting with Trump, platform to discuss how to defend user rights in the court system.
